Blue Angels

I painted all weekend....This 18x24 painting was one of the last paintings that I completed yesterday. It was one of the hardest ...I worked for a long time on the background....

I crackled the background..first a layer of black, then a layer of crackle medium. Then another layer of blue paint. I decided the blue was too bright so I painted several layers of paint over the crackle to tone the blue down. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out.

It snowed like crazy here yesterday! I painted my heart out...finished these two ladies and another "Birds and Berries" painting...hope to paint at least that many paintings today! Working toward my goal of being able to live off my art!

I am focusing on growth this year and I am off to a great start! I've gotten some great advice and will be working on some new work this weekend. I expect big things!!

Was way too tired today to finish two paintings, working toward my goal of 4 paintings this weekend. Got a lot to do tomorrow!

I read quite a few blogs today that chose a word for 2010...words that artists and crafters wanted to use for projects, inspiration, etc. I've thought alot of about this and am considering using the word "Possibility" There are so many possibilities for me in the coming year....This is a big decision...I'll think about it some more.

I am so ready to say goodbye to 2009 and HELLO to 2010! I am thankful for all that 2009 offered to me - both professionally and personally but I know that 2010 holds many surprises in store for me! I feel that it is going to be a GREAT year for me....How about you?

Merry Christmas

It's Christmas Eve...the day we celebrate the holiday. My grandchildren are here waiting in anticipation for everyone to arrive tonight. My father has called from Mississipi with his annual call announcing "It's Christmas Eve!" and all that's left is for the kids to arrive this evening. I watch my grandson and granddaughter - 10 and 13 - and wonder if they miss their mother as terribly as I miss my daughter! Four years ago, was her last Christmas and she was her happiest that Christmas. Three short weeks later she was gone. At the holidays, I miss her the most and it doesn't seem to get better with time.

Here's hoping you're keeping your family close during the Christmas season and enjoying the love of being together.

I've had some technical difficulties lately with my blog....but I'm back and getting ready for the holidays. We are in the middle of a snowstorm, here in the Northeast. Happy Thanksgiving!

The turkey's in the oven, the macaroni and cheese is made, the stuffing is waiting in the fridge, the sweet potatoe casserole has the marshmallows waiting to toast and of course one disaster has already been made today (the turkey was bad - smelling to high heaven and had to go back to the store and get another one at seven this morning!!) All this and it's only 9am this morning! I'm almost jealous of people that eat at normal times like 6pm but my family insists on eating at 12:30. We've been doing it that way since I was a kid in Mississippi...years (too many to count) ago.

To all of you, a Happy Thanksgiving..no matter when you celebrate. Enjoy your family and friends! If you plan to take advantage of the Black Friday deals...have fun! Me..I'll be working and trying to get some rest this weekend. I've got a lot of painting to do to catch up for the blah mood I've been in lately.

New Shadow Boxes

I finished the first of two shadow boxes that I've been working on. Vintage sewing machine drawers and lots of found items are used in these little shadow boxes. I'll be adding these to my website when the second one is completed.

I'm slowly working my way out of my creative funk. Changed my "tune" so to speak and painted some really funky boxes yesterday...can't wait to post them! Trying to get started on some Christmas presents....

It's been difficult to paint this week...the injection I got in my back seems to have made things worse. The doctor seems to think that the discs that were injected may have herniated or ruptured so I am getting a new MRI on Monday. Meanwhile, I am barely walking, am sleeping in a chair and am in the worst pain I've ever been in my life! I'm just hoping that once the doctor diagnosis the problem that they fix it QUICK!

Taking a Day of Rest

This is the painting I've been working on for one the twins birthday presents. My nieces will be 24 later this month - I have raised them since a couple years after their mother died (my baby sister). They have turned out to be two beautiful young ladies - I dislike saying "nieces" because I think of them as my daughters. I love them so much. I know that my girls have always thought of them as sisters as well. So here's one painting finished - I scanned it and it looks a little dirty, it's really not as shabby as it looks here. It's actually really sweet. Lindsay's is finished as well, but just not waxed yet.

I'm taking a much needed day of rest. I think I worked 16 days in a row then had an epidural injection in my spine yesterday. Oh my Goodness, did that hurt! No medication to relax me, nothing...just a big ole needle deep into my discs that have no room in between the bones. I had no color in my face to begin with because I was feeling nauseous before I got there...I walked out of there lookin CHALKY. Yesterday was the worst day I've had in a while. Anyway, today's a bit better. Stomach still a bit queasy but my back doesn't feel as bad as yesterday and my leg doesn't feel that it weighs 50 lbs! Today..just rest and naps. That's it. I'm at the edge of exhaustion!

I just discovered Zazzle and all it has to offer. I can put my artwork on notecards, greeting cards, shoes....the possibilities are endless. I created a bunch of little notecards this morning and posted them for sale. They are really cute for less than $3.00. Take a look at my shop..It's JacksonSquare Studios....

I think that my sight has enough "large" paintings for the moment...I've started painting some little 8x8 gems that are going to be great for Christmas gifts! One painting that is almost finished has black polka dotted feet and a crystal doorknob on top...Love working with the small canvases. You can add so much "stuff" to them! I'll post her when I'm done.

Life is good right now, I've got paint crusted on my hands and my studio is a mess! That must mean I'm workin!! My loved one just made me a second table for my studio...she made it out of an old chippy door and spindles. OOH....the surface area I've got now...I'm drooling! Once she gets all of her tools out of there, a goold ol'e cleaning will definately be in order.

Happy Monday to all of you..I'm off to the surgeon today to hear the bad (or good )news about my back. Having severe pains down my legs, numbness in my toes and legs...MRI didn't look promising. It was actually 4 fully typed pages long!! So, I've been referred to a "Spinal Reconstructive Surgeon". Hmmmmm, what other type of news do you suppose he has to tell me!

I am working overtime at the hospital and in the studio. My job is intruding upon my creative time - so much so that I am trying to cram in painting in my off hours and I end up being exhausted when it finally catches up with me. Today I had to go in to the hospital to audit charts and I realized that it was my 14th day in a row of working! No wonder I am exhausted.

This is my newest painting - Jane. I named her Jane because I was so inspired after taking the face painting class by Jane Des Rosier. I love painting my little girls but these angels....I could just paint all day!

Tuesday is September 1..starting the count down until the Country Livin Fair....we're making the 8 hour drive for the weekend! I can't wait!! Are you going??

I need some rest..going to work in the morning for some more audits. Have a great evening!
